Linking the Bicycle Touring 101 website to your site
Several people including some commercial operations have asked me about having their links added to this website. I like the idea and I have added several pages about links as follows:
1) Bicycle Touring 101 sponsors
This page lists any commercial vendors who offer a special deal to people who contribute to the Bicycle Touring 101 website, participate in the Mailing List or assist with the website in substantial ways.
These people freely contribute content to the site so it's nice to see them rewarded for their support of bicycle touring.
Possible examples include a discounted price on a product, overall discount on services, or even a willingness to donate items for contests, content submitter review etc.
At this time I am not seeking any form of remuneration including money, free equipment etc for me. I would far prefer that people who help by contributing be the ones who benefit.
See the "Submitting your link request" section below for details on how to apply for placement on this web page.
2) Vendors who give back to the touring community through online participation
For years now I've noticied that certain vendors actively participate in online communities. Although they occassionally mention their products or services it's obvious to me that their love of bicycle touring comes first, mentioning their business comes second and the whole concept of spamming people horrifies them.
I've always wanted to thank this group and in the past I've limited my efforts to sending money their way as I've upgraded my bike.
At this point I have gone one step further and given them a web page dedicated to listing their business operations. Each business will be accepted based on online participation (ie. membership in a mailing list etc where they are known as an active, helpful and contributing member). Once accepted I will request a paragraph or two of information from the company about their products and/or services.
Please refer to the "Submitting your link request" section below if you feel that you would like to be included on this page or if you would like to nominate a company for inclusion. I will reply to your email with questions etc.
No money or special consideration outside of the online participation requirement will result in placement on this page.
I love reading about personal adventures by bicycle. If you have a personal website that you would like listed please refer to the "Submitting your link request" section below. If you have contributed to the website or participated in the Mailing List then your link will go on the contributors page. Otherwise it will most likely go on the other links page.
I will visit your site and assuming that it is a personal website discussing your bicycle tours or something closely related to bicycle touring then I will add it to the Contributors links web page.
4) Other links including links of interest, other commerical vendors etc
I am always looking for interesting bicycle touring related web sites to showcase on the Bicycle Touring 101 web site. Examples could be a page that talks about a bicycle touring specific bike that you have created and sell. It could also be saddlebags or panniers as well.
My definition of bicycle touring is somewhat loose so use the Contact Us link on the top or bottom of most pages and let me know your idea. One thing I will be looking for is more then just a simple link. People come to this web site to read articles that are interesting and informative. Rather then give people just a simple link among a million other links my preference is to have an entire web page devoted to a particular link instead. Creating a page requires more effort but from a reader viewpoint it allows people to see what the link is about so that they can decide if they really want to visit in advance.
The link will actually be a much stronger link this way since it helps my readers and much more effectively showcases your web site.
Submitting your link request
Submitting your link request is as easy as sending me (editor at bicycletouring101 dot com) an email with the following information:
a) The URL to the website. For example: http://www.bicycletouring101.com
b) Information on which link page you think the link should be on. See the list above for the choices
c) A paragraph describing what's at the URL and why it should be added.
d) If you are requesting inclusion on the "Bicycle Touring 101 sponsors" page then please include the details of what you are offering to the bicycle touring 101 contributors should your page be added.
e) If you are requesting inclusion on the "Vendors who give back to touring through online participation page" then please provide information on what mailing lists or forums you participate in as well as a paragraph or two describing your products and services.
