Putting together the Bicycle Touring 101 website has been a great deal of fun for me and the pleasure of working with the many BT101 contributors has been a great experience.
Nine months have gone by and the site seems to have hit a few milestones worth sharing.
First let's take a peek at the stats. The chart shown here shows the traffic to the site from January 1, 2005 to August 27, 2005. As you can see the amount of bandwidth being used by vistors has increased. Of greater importance is that people are coming to the site in increasing numbers to read the articles about bicycle touring that many contributors have provided. They usually come more then once too!
Search Engines have also found Bicycle Touring 101 making it easier for people interested in bicycle touring to locate the articles that so many people have contributed. As an example BT101 is currently ranked number ONE out of 2,289,850 sites when using the keywords "bicycle touring" for your search on MSN Search. Hotbot, Lycos and Yahoo have the site listed on page three using the same keywords.
From the first day Bicycle Touring 101 was focused on providing information about bicycle touring that encompassed the entire world as much as possible. Currently most contributors are from the northern hemisphere so the articles tend to reflect that. The site statistics continue to show that people from all over the world are visiting the site so hopefully the articles will also become more focused on the entire world as well. I am certainly quite happy to assist anyone who would like to write an article about bicycle touring but is nervous about language, grammar and spelling issues.
For those who are curious visitors to the site came from the following places in the world during the month of August:
United States, Canada, Australia, Great Britain, European Union, Thailand, Netherlands, New Zealand, Germany, Ireland, Spain, France, Mexico, China, Hong Kong, Finland, South Korea, Singapore, Japan, Norway, Poland, Brazil, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland, Slovak Republic, Estonia, Italy, Taiwan, Denmark, Belgium, Latvia, Austria, Israel, India, Turkey, South Africa, Romania, Portugal, Venezuela, Namibia, Pakistan, Lithuania, Indonesia, Malaysia, Iceland, Ethiopia, Greece, El Salvador, Czech Republic, Croatia, Malta, Russian Federation, Bulgaria, Chile, Puerto Rico, Philippines, Barbados, Vietnam, Costa Rica, Ghana, Bangladesh, Hungary, Nicaragua, and Togo.
With the ongoing effort to add new content specific to bicycle touring, including interviews with participants from around the world I am confident that the site will continue to be a useful informational site.
